The ferry leaving Uig for Tarbert on Harris
Two years ago I found myself spending a lazy four or five glorious days in the small village of Uig on the North West corner of Skye. I was back again last year for a brief overnight in June. The weather was stormy, a pretty dismal night and I caught the morning ferry over to Tarbert. It turned out to be the prelude to two weeks on the Western Isles without a decent day of weather.
This photo is taken from picnic tables at the edge of the Uig campsite with the Cal Mac ferry just leaving on it’s outward bound sailing to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris from my earlier visit in good weather.
The campsite at Uig is ideal for breaking the journey up. It’s a fair drive to Uig from most places and catching the first morning ferry gives you a full day to look forward to, with no driving other than getting on the ferry a few hundred yards from the campsite entrance.
