about Find a Bench

Find a Bench is a community map of public benches. Every bench on the site is submitted by someone who sat on it, with two photos: one of the bench and one of the view from it. Benches are tagged (shaded, near water, scenic view…) and rated from 1 to 5 stars, so you can find a good place to sit before you set out.

photographed and unverified benches

Blue pins are benches our community has photographed. A moderator checks every submission before it appears on the map.

Grey pins are unverified benches from OpenStreetMap, the free map of the world. They show where a bench should be, sometimes with its material, whether it has a backrest, or the inscription on a memorial plaque, but nobody has photographed them here yet. Open one and choose “photograph this bench” to add it.

adding a bench

Create an account, then add a bench: drop a pin, upload a photo of the bench and of the view (day, night, or both), and add a short description and tags. Location data and other metadata are stripped from your photos when you upload them.
